I'm going to do it.

So...after struggling with myself and my husband I've decided I'm going to start transitioning. "What does that mean?", you may ask. It means I'm going to stop putting relaxers in my hair. I'm going to allow the chemicals to "grow out" of my hair and then...maybe...cut off all of the relaxed parts of my hair so I can be completely natural. What I really wanted to do is chop it all off and start over again, but hubby definitely didn't agree with me on that one. My daughter is natural(as she should be, she's only 2) and I love her hair. I love that she loves her hair. What I have heard her say about my hair makes me definitely want to go back to natural. She thinks that mommy's "straight" hair is prettier than her hair, which is curly and thick. I encourage her all the time by letting her know that her thick, coarse, curly hair is pretty and that's how God made her hair. That means it's perfect. I've started twisting and braiding her hair as well as using accessories so she'll see how gorgeous she is, but I know by allowing myself to go back to my roots(ha ha ha...it's a pun...)she'll definitely understand that "our" hair is perfectly fine the way it is. So, that's what I'll be up to for the next 50+ years or so.

I also have to credit my BABs(www.brownandbridal.com)with inspiring me to make this decision as well. Some of the ladies on that board have the best looking hair I've ever seen-and they're natural. I would love to post their pics here, but I would need their permission first. Perhaps that will be my next post. Until then, good peoples!!!

Good luck with your journey! Some of the gorgeous ladies of BAB kept me motivated throughout my transition.

Charanne had an pretty cool post about her natural hair transition the other day.

I'm rooting for you!

I love that your daughter was your main inspiration for this. It's a beautiful thing that you're doing for both of you. Good luck and have fun with it.
